Get to Know Deep Creek Vintage

The question we hear the most? “So when was this house built?”

What we now know as Deep Creek Vintage began as a single-family residence that was built around 1750.

“But was it a hotel? There are so many bathrooms!”

Like many homes of its age, the manor house was modified, added on to, and changed many times. And through those changes, its purpose evolved. It went from family home to bed and breakfast to motor lodge. At one point it was even a doll hospital.

“Is it haunted?” Well, that’s for you to find out. But we do give tours, complete with recordings that have been captured in the house, and a chance for you to ask questions during a recorded session as well. We expand on the history of the house during this tour, and private parties are welcome to schedule their own group events.

Sadly at one point in its history, the manor house laid neglected and vacant. It fell into serious disrepair. When it was chosen as the location for Deep Creek Vintage over three years ago, a lot of work was put into creating the vision you now see today.

So what is Deep Creek Vintage? To start, it is a multi-vendor destination spot that provides customers a large selection of merchandise spanning all eras. One thing that makes Deep Creek Vintage special is the broad spectrum of vendors which allow us to have such great variety. From fabulous vintage finds and hand-painted buffets to handmade jewelry and soaps, We want to make sure that whatever our customers are looking for, we are able to provide.

We are more than just a storefront, though. Deep Creek Vintage provides classes for those who want to embrace their creative sides. We also hold vintage markets where community vendors and artists are welcome to join us for the weekend to create an atmosphere of festive shopping. And our newest branch is Deep Creek Vintage Estate Services, where we take the stress out of transitioning to a new stage of life by preparing and holding estate sales for you.

Classes are back!

The cottage is moving right along, and soon we will have a great new spot to hold workshops. And we already have a great schedule for July! School might be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean that all learning has come to an end. Grab a friend and come spend some time at Deep Creek Vintage, learn a fun new skill, or polish up your talents. Take a look at some of the things we’re offering:

soap

Soap making is Sunday, July 17th and begins at 10am . Learn the basics of soap making when you create a batch of all natural soap.  All supplies and ingredients will be provided as you get a hands-on lesson.  Because soap does take two days to cure before it can be turned out, you will leave with a bar from a pre-made batch, but all the skills you need to make many more bars right in your home kitchen.  This class also covers the basics of essential oils.  This class is hosted by Susan of the Vintage Farmstead, and is fours hours in length.  All materials are included in the class cost of $40.

Another of our popular classes, create you own upcycled pallet wood serving tray, is back! This class is July 21st and begins at 6pm. This class is great for all skill levels. Design a one-of-a-kind piece as you learn new painting techniques under the instruction of a resident artist.  While the construction will be handled by the instructor, this class introduces participants to the elements of designing and the tools required to construct these trays.  Materials are included in the class price, as well as hands-on instruction.  This class lasts approximately three hours, and is hosted by Cate of Cate’s Boutique.  The class cost is $45.

We have a brand new vendor at Deep Creek Vintage, Nancy of Simple Joy Design, and she will be teaching some great floral design tips in a fun class that is premiering July 23 at 10am. In Basic Floral Design you will tie a bow, arrange flower in a vase and make a tea cup topiary. Learn to turn a grocery store bouquet into a beautiful floral vase arrangement and a basic topiary in a tea cup.  You will also be using fresh items from the garden.  Learn about the meaning of many of your favorite flowers and herbs, as well as, what you might have growing in your home garden that will make lovely cut flowers to accent your decor. You will need scissors, hand trimmers, and a coffee cup or teacup, but all other materials are provided in the class fee of $40.

Another new class features pallet wood, but this time to create a unique wall hanging to display your favorite picture. The frame hangs suspended so that you can easily switch the picture, too. This class is great for all levels, and all supplies are included in the class fee of $40. You will leave with a finished product, ready to display on your all. This class is held July 28 beginning at 6pm and is hosted by Cate of Cate’s Boutique.

Another popular class is our Bring Your Own Piece class, which will be held July 29 at 10am. Have a small piece that you need guidance painting?  From start to finish you will work on your own small piece of furniture or a home décor item. Item must be manageable and able to fit on a table.  Size questions?  Just ask.  You will need to bring your piece prepped and ready to go, with paint colors pre-selected. We are happy to help guide you in the prep and planning of your piece with prior notice.  All paints, finishes and full instructions are provided.  Classes hosted by Cheryl, owner Deep Creek Vintage.  This class is approximately four hours in length, and all materials and instruction are provided in the class fee of $60.

Advance registration is necessary for all classes so that we can ensure we have supplies and space for all participants. Want to reserve your spot? Just call Deep Creek Vintage at (540)623-3258 or stop by today!

On the horizon

It has been said that a rolling stone gathers no moss.  Over at Deep Creek Vintage we always seem to be in the middle of a rock stampede. But what fun is it to remain stagnant? As we move forward in the business, we learn what areas our customers rely on and we focus on them. We make changes, and tweak things to improve. We also learn what our customer base is looking for that we  are not currently able to provide, and we spend time researching if this is something we can do, and do well. Curious yet? Good. Because we have some news about exciting things on the horizon for Deep Creek Vintage.

What’s first? For many of our customers, dealing with helping a family member move to a new phase of life, such as an assisted living environment, is something that can prove to be not only stressful, but also extremely time consuming. Some don’t know where to begin, and the process is just overwhelming. We are happy that we are now able to help. Introducing Deep Creek Vintage Estate Services, where we help take some of the burden off your shoulders. We will come to the residence, help process the items, prepare them for the sale, and hold the estate sale for you. We know how hard this process can be, and we want to help our customers in any way we can.

That’s not the only exciting news for Deep Creek Vintage. Soon we will be adding a “new” building to the property. Located directly behind the manor house is an old cottage, in sad shape. It reminds us a lot of what the manor looked like when it was originally taken over. But, with a lot of TLC and hard work, we know that it can be made wonderful. Soon you will see lots of changes happening in this house, as it eventually becomes home to the studio, and we will be able to have lots of storage move here, too.

What else does this mean? Well, as we move some of our storage out of the manor, it means that spaces will be freed up for new vendors to come in. So if you have been considering becoming a vendor here, contact us now and find out more information!

We’re  excited about all the wonderful things that are coming. And we’re happy that it means even more ways that we can cater to our customers. In the meantime, you’ll see us plugging along to continue to bring you more of the wonderful things you’ve come to expect at Deep Creek. Stop by today to see all the new pieces, and if you are interested in joining our team, or learning more about our estate services, just contact us.  See you soon at the manor!

Counting Our Blessings

Thanksgiving has passed, and we all hope you had a wonderful day surrounded by family and friends, plenty of food, laughter, and fun.  There is no question as to what we are thankful for at Deep Creek Vintage!  With all the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holiday, it’s always nice to take a moment to breathe and reflect on everything that we often take for granted.  We have made so many wonderful friends this year.  When a customer enters the Manor or Marketplace a stranger, it is so nice when they leave a friend.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we have had with each of you.  In the same way that each piece of furniture has a story, each customer has a story.  We love knowing that a dresser is going to a new home, but love it more when we know that the dresser will be used in the bedroom of a child that is eagerly anticipated by a family who have been searching for the perfect piece since they first learned they were expecting.  Or a bedroom set that was painted with care now is the mark of accomplishment by a young woman who has found the perfect job, the perfect home, and is moving onward and upward in the world as she flourishes in her independence.

Our painting classes have grown and changed, and will continue to evolve as we grow into our Marketplace studio.  We are so thankful for the opportunity this space allows, and for the interest and spirit of fun our customers have shown by jumping in and joining us.  They say if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life, and we feel this is truly the case here.  We will continue to offer new classes in the coming months, and different chances to experiment, learn, and grow with the new products we offer.  We know the holidays are a busy time of year, so look for a fresh class schedule after the new year.

The Marketplace is changing daily, and we are so thankful to all the vendors who have joined our family.  We have vendors who have made antiques a lifelong business and vendors who have recently decided to make an interest something more.  We are thankful for each one who has decided to call Deep Creek Vintage home.
