Here we come a-caroling

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Here at Deep Creek Vintage;
Take a look all around the shop, decorated from bottom to top
With candy canes and embellished silverplate aglow.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Right within our store,
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On our own front porch.
A pair of decorated skates and an old iron gate
Is the wish of Barbara and Ben;
An old vintage sled and a Frenchy twin bed
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;

And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go;
There’s a tree on the farm table, one in the front room as well,
And vintage ornaments to hang on every bough.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Happy holidays from Deep Creek Vintage, and come visit us for all your holiday decorating and shopping needs!

Keeping it Local

We are always grateful for the support of our community, but there is one day a year that is special. Small Business Saturday is coming up in about a week’s time. So what exactly is Small Business Saturday? And why is it so important? It’s a topic that any local business man or woman loves to discuss.

Black Friday is traditionally the day known for crowded malls and the shop-till-you-drop flurry as people rush to begin their holiday shopping. But the day after that has taken on new significance. Known as Small Business Saturday, it is a day to skip the large box stores and instead visit all the small, locally owned businesses. It’s a day to make your dollars count as you put them back into the community where you live, play, and raise your family. Local retailers love this day because for them it represents a promise that in the year to come, they can count on community support. They see that customers understand the hard work, love, and sacrifice put into being retailers in the community. It’s a day to celebrate all that being a local business means.

We are a store that is built on local vendors. We are your neighbors and your friends. We are the people you run into the grocery store, and the people you sit next to at church. We are PTA moms, and grandmothers and grandfathers. We love what we do, and love being part of a small, local business. And we appreciate the support of the community we live in.

So come join us! We’ll be open Saturday, November 26th from 9am until 5pm. Yes, we’re even opening early! We’d love to help you with your holiday shopping so that you can make sure each gift you give is truly unique, and that you can say with pride that you supported small, local businesses.

Thanks for your support, and happy holidays!

Counting your blessings

It seems to sneak up on us every year.  We just seem to end summer, and suddenly it’s time to pull out the Christmas decorations, get ready for the holiday open house, and begin to prepare for winter.  But now that the manor has been decorated from top to bottom, we are able to take a second to sit back and pause, and consider what this season is truly about.

Next week is Thanksgiving.  The turkey, the stuffing, the cranberry sauce, the pumpkin pie, and the nap on the couch after.  For many, it’s hours of prep work and cooking to prepare a feast that could feed an army.  It’s family gathered around a table (or sometimes the family has grown so large that it’s extra tables, included that infamous “kid table”).  And, of course, for others, it’s the day before the sales at the malls and mass retailers begin.  But, Thanksgiving is meant to be exactly what the word says in its simplest form:  a giving of thanks.  A time to reflect on all that we have, all that we have come through, and all that we have experienced.  And we here at Deep Creek Vintage would like to take some time to do just that.12272940_10156173621225307_2019262623_n

First and foremost, we are thankful for our loyal customers.  I can’t help but think of the little song I learned when I was a Girl Scout, “Make new friends, but keep the old.  One is silver and the other’s gold.”  We are so thankful that as we have continued to grow and change, we have had so many customers continue to walk through that door and go through it all with us.  When your customers become your friends, you are truly lucky.  We are grateful that new people continue to find Deep Creek Vintage and tell their friends, and we hope that this never changes.

Our vendors are certainly among our blessings, and we know that Deep Creek Vintage would not be the place it is without them.  We are a diverse group of people, but it is that diversity that makes sure there is something for everyone who walks through those doors.  Each of our vendors has a special role.  We know that there are so many places that they could choose to have their businesses, and we are happy that they have chosen to join us at Deep Creek.  We will continue to grow in 2016, and can’t wait to see who will be added to our expanding group.

Lastly, we are thankful for this business.  They say that if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.  We are grateful to have a business that is not only a work of heart, but also a work of art, where we can use our creativity and really just put ourselves out there, and that the public enjoys what we do as much as we enjoy doing it.  We are thankful that we are able to help bring history to life, not only with the materials and objects we house, but also in the building we are housed in.  It is not every business who has the opportunity to be in a manor house that has history in every nook and cranny.

So as we pause this Thanksgiving, these are some of the things we will be giving thanks for.  We have lots of exciting things coming at Deep Creek, so stay tuned.  And thank you for being part of our family!

Santa’s Sleigh

Santa may have a list that he checks twice, but sometimes what ends up in his sleigh is not exactly what we are hoping for.  You all know what I mean.  While it is certainly the thought that counts, we often find ourselves with a wide variety of things to bring to the next white elephant gift exchange.  Maybe it’s the ugly Christmas sweater that he doesn’t realize was intended for a theme party.  Perhaps it was Aunt Bertha’s fruitcake.  A fuzzy toilet lid cover?  Maybe Santa decided that the best thing of all would just be to give you an envelope of the green stuff so that you could pick out a present that you love!  If you find yourself opting to be your very best personal Santa, come on over and visit us.

Maybe you want something to hang on the wall, a little touch of elegance for years to come.  From small to grand, we have it all.

Looking for something for you?  Maybe you need to wrap yourself in warmth.  A vintage fur will certainly do the trick!  And you’ve been very nice this year, so get the dress and gloves, too.

Something for the home?  From ornate and elegant to painted perfection, we have pieces to fit every style and taste.

Hopefully Santa brings you exactly what you are looking for this holiday season, but if you are still searching, come shop with us!  Don’t forget we are open seven days a week from 10-5, and located right off Route 1, just a mile south of Cosner’s Corner.  Come visit us, and make sure you follow us on Facebook.  Happy Holidays, and hope to see you soon at Deep Creek Vintage!

Soo…..did you take the challenge?

In less than two weeks, we will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of the jolly old soul and his team of reindeer. Which means for the next two weeks, I am frantically trying to make sure I get as much accomplished as I can to be ready. My trees are finally up, my cards are almost done, and I feel like I am finally making progress.

I can’t lie; some parts of the holiday I enjoy more than others. My favorite part hands down is shopping.  And, there are certainly people I enjoy shopping for more than others. But, I have had the most fun with trying to support local shops this year. I visited shops I had never been in before, and found some of the most charming places.  Instead of chain restaurants, I have been eating at local Mom&Pop type places.  What better way to end a day of shopping than with a great meal?  And the best part?  Many of them offer gift certificates you can make part of your gift giving as well.

Some of my favorite shops are local, and they are on my yearly “must shop” list.  We still have to pick out our special ornaments for our children, and it’s nice that it’s a yearly tradition at a local shop now.  And, I of course have been shopping from the amazing vendors at Deep Creek Vintage.  What are my favorite parts about small, local businesses?  The sense of community is one.  Often the people who work here are the owners, and you get to know them.  The customer service is another.  They take the time to care.  These businesses were created by people who have a passion for what they are doing, and it shows.  The uniqueness is another.  Often you can find one-of-a-kind pieces, or things that you can’t find anywhere else.

So have you taken the challenge to shop local this season?  We know many of you have because we have seen you at Deep Creek Vintage with your lists!  And we are so thankful!  If you haven’t started your shopping yet, it’s not too late.  We have plenty for everyone on your list, with more arriving everyday.  For those of you who have shopped local, please tell us about your favorite finds and your experiences!  Make shopping local part of your holiday tradition.  We hope to see you soon, and happy holidays from all of us at Deep Creek Vintage!

Make your list and check it twice

It’s easy to get lost in the holiday craziness and lose sight of the true meaning of the season.  Just try to get near one of the major shopping centers, and more likely than not you will find yourself encountering traffic, long lines, and at least one person who resembles Scrooge before he met with the three spirits.  This year we would like to present you with a challenge.  When you make your list, think local, think original, and think small business.

Imagine one of these gorgeous trunks at the base of your tree, filled with beautifully wrapped gifts.  Not only is it a eye-catching piece that would certainly stand out in your home, but you could make it part of your Christmas tradition.

Maybe you and your significant other have stopped exchanging gifts and have just started buying something you “need” each year.  Wouldn’t it be nice if this year that item was something you wanted and could pass down to future generations?  Think of a sideboard like this that can stand the test of time, and will never go out of style.

Even if you aren’t in the market for a large piece this holiday season, we have pieces and items for everyone on your list!  Headed to a holiday party?  We have wonderful hostess gifts!  Looking for a stocking stuffer?  How about handmade soap in an array of amazing scents?  Shopping for the woman who has everything?  What about a unique piece of handcrafted jewelry?

We know that there are people on your list who are hard to buy for, and certainly it is easy to get a gift certificate and let them select items that they like.  But what about a gift certificate to a shop where you know their gifts will be unique!  We offer gift certificates in any denomination.  Stop in today, and we will help you finish all the shopping on your list.  This season shop for those on your list where it makes a difference.  Choose local shops run by your friends and neighbors.  Shop small, shop local, shop unique.  Hope to  see you soon at Deep Creek Vintage!  We are open seven days a week, Monday – Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday 11-5.  We will be open on Christmas Eve from 10-12 for pre-arranged pick-ups if you have a holiday surprise you need help hiding.  Have a great holiday season from all of us at Deep Creek Vintage!

Counting Our Blessings

Thanksgiving has passed, and we all hope you had a wonderful day surrounded by family and friends, plenty of food, laughter, and fun.  There is no question as to what we are thankful for at Deep Creek Vintage!  With all the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holiday, it’s always nice to take a moment to breathe and reflect on everything that we often take for granted.  We have made so many wonderful friends this year.  When a customer enters the Manor or Marketplace a stranger, it is so nice when they leave a friend.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we have had with each of you.  In the same way that each piece of furniture has a story, each customer has a story.  We love knowing that a dresser is going to a new home, but love it more when we know that the dresser will be used in the bedroom of a child that is eagerly anticipated by a family who have been searching for the perfect piece since they first learned they were expecting.  Or a bedroom set that was painted with care now is the mark of accomplishment by a young woman who has found the perfect job, the perfect home, and is moving onward and upward in the world as she flourishes in her independence.

Our painting classes have grown and changed, and will continue to evolve as we grow into our Marketplace studio.  We are so thankful for the opportunity this space allows, and for the interest and spirit of fun our customers have shown by jumping in and joining us.  They say if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life, and we feel this is truly the case here.  We will continue to offer new classes in the coming months, and different chances to experiment, learn, and grow with the new products we offer.  We know the holidays are a busy time of year, so look for a fresh class schedule after the new year.

The Marketplace is changing daily, and we are so thankful to all the vendors who have joined our family.  We have vendors who have made antiques a lifelong business and vendors who have recently decided to make an interest something more.  We are thankful for each one who has decided to call Deep Creek Vintage home.

From all of us at Deep Creek Vintage, thank you for your support and patronage.  Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday.  This day is an important day to shop because is shows that you support small businesses in your community and want to see them grow and thrive.  It means that you want to see the money that you spend in your community go right back into your community.  We encourage you to support all small businesses and make sure you make Deep Creek one of your stops.  Thank you from all of us at Deep Creek Vintage, and we hope to see you soon!
