Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make our Spring Market Days a success! We had so much fun catching up with all our wonderful customers last weekend. The lawn seemed to have a steady steam of traffic, despite the weather, and we are so thankful for everyone who braved the rain to come out and support the event. From the comments we received, it seems a good time was had by all! And from the full arms headed back to the cars, it looked like everyone found lots of wonderful things they needed to bring back home.

Another big thank you goes to our vendors, both our regular house vendors, and our vendors who traveled and set up to be a part of the market. It’s always wonderful when we can offer a large variety of items, and we love all the new pieces we see every market. We found quite a few goodies ourselves, and that’s always half the fun!

Our last thank you goes to Tim Roy, without whom we could not manage to hold events like this. Whether he’s handling parking so that it doesn’t turn into a nightmare, carrying large pieces of furniture like a pro, or helping customers with prices, he’s always there to save the day. Tim even serves as our security, staying at the manor overnight to make sure that all the merchandise in the tents remains secure. While today may be his 60th birthday, he certainly can keep up with the 20 year-olds when it comes to endurance, and we are thankful for him! And we’re glad he got some much needed rest when the market had concluded.

If you missed the market, don’t worry! We will be having another one in the fall, so you have time to make room in your home. In the meantime, we’re open six days a week and have lots of amazing pieces. Our vendors are quickly restocking to get ready for our birthday celebration next month! Thank you again for helping make the market so wonderful! We really do have the best customers!

Keeping it Local

We are always grateful for the support of our community, but there is one day a year that is special. Small Business Saturday is coming up in about a week’s time. So what exactly is Small Business Saturday? And why is it so important? It’s a topic that any local business man or woman loves to discuss.

Black Friday is traditionally the day known for crowded malls and the shop-till-you-drop flurry as people rush to begin their holiday shopping. But the day after that has taken on new significance. Known as Small Business Saturday, it is a day to skip the large box stores and instead visit all the small, locally owned businesses. It’s a day to make your dollars count as you put them back into the community where you live, play, and raise your family. Local retailers love this day because for them it represents a promise that in the year to come, they can count on community support. They see that customers understand the hard work, love, and sacrifice put into being retailers in the community. It’s a day to celebrate all that being a local business means.

We are a store that is built on local vendors. We are your neighbors and your friends. We are the people you run into the grocery store, and the people you sit next to at church. We are PTA moms, and grandmothers and grandfathers. We love what we do, and love being part of a small, local business. And we appreciate the support of the community we live in.

So come join us! We’ll be open Saturday, November 26th from 9am until 5pm. Yes, we’re even opening early! We’d love to help you with your holiday shopping so that you can make sure each gift you give is truly unique, and that you can say with pride that you supported small, local businesses.

Thanks for your support, and happy holidays!

Tents lined the front of Deep Creek Vintage, with a wide variety of merchandise for our customers to peruse. From handmade signs, to fragrant soaps, to little crafty creations, there was no shortage on selection. Our front porch as packed with treasures, and inside was full of “new” pieces ready to find new homes. And they certainly did! All weekend there was a steady stream at the register as customers found items they had to have. We loved hearing why the various pieces appealed to them, and getting to visit with friends we haven’t seen in a while. It was also great to see so many new faces!

Classes are back!

The cottage is moving right along, and soon we will have a great new spot to hold workshops. And we already have a great schedule for July! School might be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean that all learning has come to an end. Grab a friend and come spend some time at Deep Creek Vintage, learn a fun new skill, or polish up your talents. Take a look at some of the things we’re offering:

Soap making is Sunday, July 17th and begins at 10am . Learn the basics of soap making when you create a batch of all natural soap.  All supplies and ingredients will be provided as you get a hands-on lesson.  Because soap does take two days to cure before it can be turned out, you will leave with a bar from a pre-made batch, but all the skills you need to make many more bars right in your home kitchen.  This class also covers the basics of essential oils.  This class is hosted by Susan of the Vintage Farmstead, and is fours hours in length.  All materials are included in the class cost of $40.

Another of our popular classes, create you own upcycled pallet wood serving tray, is back! This class is July 21st and begins at 6pm. This class is great for all skill levels. Design a one-of-a-kind piece as you learn new painting techniques under the instruction of a resident artist.  While the construction will be handled by the instructor, this class introduces participants to the elements of designing and the tools required to construct these trays.  Materials are included in the class price, as well as hands-on instruction.  This class lasts approximately three hours, and is hosted by Cate of Cate’s Boutique.  The class cost is $45.

We have a brand new vendor at Deep Creek Vintage, Nancy of Simple Joy Design, and she will be teaching some great floral design tips in a fun class that is premiering July 23 at 10am. In Basic Floral Design you will tie a bow, arrange flower in a vase and make a tea cup topiary. Learn to turn a grocery store bouquet into a beautiful floral vase arrangement and a basic topiary in a tea cup.  You will also be using fresh items from the garden.  Learn about the meaning of many of your favorite flowers and herbs, as well as, what you might have growing in your home garden that will make lovely cut flowers to accent your decor. You will need scissors, hand trimmers, and a coffee cup or teacup, but all other materials are provided in the class fee of $40.

Another new class features pallet wood, but this time to create a unique wall hanging to display your favorite picture. The frame hangs suspended so that you can easily switch the picture, too. This class is great for all levels, and all supplies are included in the class fee of $40. You will leave with a finished product, ready to display on your all. This class is held July 28 beginning at 6pm and is hosted by Cate of Cate’s Boutique.

Another popular class is our Bring Your Own Piece class, which will be held July 29 at 10am. Have a small piece that you need guidance painting?  From start to finish you will work on your own small piece of furniture or a home décor item. Item must be manageable and able to fit on a table.  Size questions?  Just ask.  You will need to bring your piece prepped and ready to go, with paint colors pre-selected. We are happy to help guide you in the prep and planning of your piece with prior notice.  All paints, finishes and full instructions are provided.  Classes hosted by Cheryl, owner Deep Creek Vintage.  This class is approximately four hours in length, and all materials and instruction are provided in the class fee of $60.

Advance registration is necessary for all classes so that we can ensure we have supplies and space for all participants. Want to reserve your spot? Just call Deep Creek Vintage at (540)623-3258 or stop by today!

On the horizon

It has been said that a rolling stone gathers no moss.  Over at Deep Creek Vintage we always seem to be in the middle of a rock stampede. But what fun is it to remain stagnant? As we move forward in the business, we learn what areas our customers rely on and we focus on them. We make changes, and tweak things to improve. We also learn what our customer base is looking for that we  are not currently able to provide, and we spend time researching if this is something we can do, and do well. Curious yet? Good. Because we have some news about exciting things on the horizon for Deep Creek Vintage.

What’s first? For many of our customers, dealing with helping a family member move to a new phase of life, such as an assisted living environment, is something that can prove to be not only stressful, but also extremely time consuming. Some don’t know where to begin, and the process is just overwhelming. We are happy that we are now able to help. Introducing Deep Creek Vintage Estate Services, where we help take some of the burden off your shoulders. We will come to the residence, help process the items, prepare them for the sale, and hold the estate sale for you. We know how hard this process can be, and we want to help our customers in any way we can.

That’s not the only exciting news for Deep Creek Vintage. Soon we will be adding a “new” building to the property. Located directly behind the manor house is an old cottage, in sad shape. It reminds us a lot of what the manor looked like when it was originally taken over. But, with a lot of TLC and hard work, we know that it can be made wonderful. Soon you will see lots of changes happening in this house, as it eventually becomes home to the studio, and we will be able to have lots of storage move here, too.

What else does this mean? Well, as we move some of our storage out of the manor, it means that spaces will be freed up for new vendors to come in. So if you have been considering becoming a vendor here, contact us now and find out more information!

We’re  excited about all the wonderful things that are coming. And we’re happy that it means even more ways that we can cater to our customers. In the meantime, you’ll see us plugging along to continue to bring you more of the wonderful things you’ve come to expect at Deep Creek. Stop by today to see all the new pieces, and if you are interested in joining our team, or learning more about our estate services, just contact us.  See you soon at the manor!

Come Rain or Shine

Last weekend we held our biggest market to date, and we had so many wonderful vendors join us!  We loved the wide variety of items that they brought and added to the vendors from inside the manor house.  We might have picked up a few goodies ourselves.  It was so wonderful to have so many local artists, craftsmen, and creators on the grounds sharing their businesses with our customers.

Did you miss the main event?  Well, unfortunately it will be a little while before our next market, so you will have to settle for a few snapshots of all the wonders we had on the grounds.  And with over twenty spots filled, there were quite a few to see!

For those who enjoyed a feminine touch, there was quite a selection.  From upcycled teacups to fairy gardens, oohs and aahs were heard frequently as people found treasures they had to have.

For those who preferred the beauty of wood, we had an artisan of handcrafted pens and wine stoppers (and magic wands!) that were truly gorgeous.

For those looking for a little self pampering, we had several options.  Lotions, soaps, even beard oil for the men.  And everything smelled amazing!soapmarket

Right outside the front door we had a vendor that we still are hearing people talk about, a welder who creates the most amazing yard art and home decor using horse shoes and other metal pieces.  We’re always a fan of creative thinking here at Deep Creek Vintage.

And of course several of our own vendors added to their already amazing selection in the manor by setting the stage outside.  We are thrilled with the talent we are able to offer our customers daily, and love when we can expand on it to fill the field.

And to think that this is just a small sampling of the vendors.  Plus all the amazing things in the house…well, it’s a wonder that I didn’t buy more.  But I did find a ton of great gifts.  And maybe some things for me.  Maybe.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our Market Days celebration!  We loved having you, appreciated all the compliments, loved seeing some of our old friends, and loved all of the new friends we made!  Oh, but whoever invited the rain on Sunday, that was not appreciated.  But we are so thankful for everyone who came out despite the wet weather and made a day of it!  Can’t wait to see you back again, and don’t worry because our vendors have already restocked their rooms with lots of great merchandise.  Come see us again soon!
